Sir,
With reference to your letter of the 3rd
September 1901, 29150/1901, and the reply thereto from wo this Department of 30th September 1901, on the subject of the transfer of War Department land to the Colonial 34337.
Government for the dock extension of the Hong Kong and
Whampoa Dock Company; I am directed by the Secretary of
State for War to acquaint you, for the information of
Mr Secretary Chamberlain, that the General officer
Commanding in China and Hong Kong reports that the Hong
Kong and Whampoa Dock Company made an application in 1900
for a further piece of Military Reserve land in the
neighbourhood of Kowloon Dock Battery for the erection of
workshops as shown on the enclosed plan.

The Dock Company now object to purchase the
site of the battery for the construction of the dock
without at the same time obtaining the site for the
workshops.
3. As there are no Military objections to the
proposal, and it is very advisable to save further delay,
the General Officer Commanding has on behalf of the War
Office consented to the sale of this land to the Dock
Under Secretary of State,
Company
Colonial office.
